Sloat Stride

Sloat Stride is not just a fundraiser. It's a happening. Students gear up for an hour-long period in which they try and complete as many laps around the lower yard as they can. It's not a race though. Everyone goes at their own pace and has their own goal. Parent volunteers monitor the course and spray the kids with water as they run or walk by and hand them cups of water (compostable!) whenever they need it. Each time they pass the finish line, a volunteer makes a mark on the student's arm, which is how we tally their laps at the end. After they complete their hour, the runners and walkers get popcicles and more water, and then retire back to their classrooms to count their laps with their teacher. No matter how many pledges they get, each student has a great time at Sloat Stride.

There are prizes for the most laps completed, the class with the highest humber of pledges, and individual prizes for how much students raise.

All the money raised goes right into student programs and teacher supplies. Check the Calendar link for the exact date.

This event is run by parent power! Watch for sign-ups around school or in the Wednesday envelope, or send an e-mail to sloatparents@gmail.com to indicate your interest in helping make the day fun and successful for the kids. If you want to take a more active role in planning Sloat Stride, check the PCO contacts list to see if there are any open positions.
