Silent Auction 2010 ...
A Night at the Speakeasy

Thanks everyone for making the event a success! After expenses, we raised about $14,000! A Commodore Sloat record! Special standing ovations for Joyce Baranowska for the food, with help from Claudia Mauricio and alum parent Maria, and to David DesRoches for being an extraordinary emcee and managing the sound, and to Geri Vahey for handling the check-out, and to Shane & Shirley and Adrienne for beautiful pictures, and to the great set-up and clean-up crews--Kevin, Julia, Tina, Erika, Karen, Deanna, Tony, Shane, Janet, Victoria, Mairead. Great team!

Click here to view Shane & Shirley's pictures from the Speakeasy! You might have noticed that you didn't pay for a portrait. Sorry about that, but in the heat of the moment, yours truly forgot to give Geri the list of bid numbers for paying for portraits. So they're on the house. Enjoy!

Next Year's Auction...
If you want to start soliciting items for next year, go right ahead! It's never too early. Just make sure if it's a gift certificate, that it doesn't expire too soon!

We rely 100% on Sloat families and friends for auction items! Restaurant certificates, kids classes and camps, spa or salon or pet services, hotel stays, antiques, furniture, parties, wine, food, you name it! Get creative. The more successful we make the auction, the more we can help support Sloat programs.

So print the materials to the right. Then make a list of your favorite restaurants and service businesses and call or visit them. It works best if you have a relationship with them—you eat there all the time, get your hair cut there, etc. And the best time to ask is when you're making a purchase. It's a good idea to keep a few copies of these docs in your bag. Then if an opportunity arises, you're ready. If you don't want to solicit, think about what you can offer. A small gift card? A toy (new please)? A kids' party? A painting, photograph, or sculpture?

Check in with Julia Martin as you solicit businesses. We want to be sure no business is approached twice. And as you collect your donations, you may contact Julia to coordinate storage.

Please remember that if you decide to spend money on anything relating to the auction and expect to be reimbursed, you need to submit a formal request to the PCO board before spending the money. If it is not in the budget, the board needs to vote on it. The idea is to spend AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE to maximize the profits for our school.

If you have any questions, please click here to send an e-mail 2011 auction coordinator Julia Martin. Thank you for your support!
